Nigeria’s 2018 budget deficit hits N3.4trn in 2018
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Jigawa State has recruited 20,000 ad-hoc staff for the upcoming Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Dr Mahmoud Issa informed news men on Wednesday of the concluded delivery of sensitive materials from the custody of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to INEC office in Dutse, for onward delivery to the 27 local government areas in the state.
He clarified that the sensitive materials would be attended by a combined team of security personnel and handed over to electoral officers.
“We assured voters that sensitive materials will be ready to avoid delay in casting their votes on the election day.”
According to the REC, the card readers had been configured and 325 extras had been provided in case of technical faults, adding:
“We have confidence in our card readers as they are serviced and we have extra in case of any eventuality.’’
He indicated that the commission ensured that sensitive materials were kept under close watch which prompted its movement to CBN Dutse for security reasons, noting that the postponement of last Saturday elections had not in any way hindered their arrangement of financial cost.
