AFCON Qualifier: Libya coach says team’ll fight back against Super Eagles

The acting head coach of the Libya is confident that his side will beat Super Eagles in Tunisia on Tuesday despite falling to a 4-0 defeat in Uyo last weekend.

The Libyan national team came into the game as leaders of Group E of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers but sank to third after the game.

A hat trick by Odion Ighalo and a goal by Samuel Kalu ensured the Eagles won and climbed to second behind South Africa, who thrashed Seychelles 6-0.

“We were unlucky not to have scored minutes after we conceded, but this result hasn’t changed anything. We have a good team and we will fight,” coach Omar Al-Maryami told reporters in Uyo before leaving for Sfax.

“We have a young squad that is very ambitious. We lost the game due to some little details and the first goal we conceded affected us.

“Unfortunately, we lost three points but we are sure of taking them back in the second leg, but we must attack the Nigerian team to score.”

Both teams will face each other again on Tuesday in the matchday 4 of the qualifiers, as the race for Cameroon 2019 continues.
