FIFA World Cup clash, Dalung in Spain for D’Tigress vs Argentina
Minister of Youth and Sports, Barr. Solomon Dalung will be watching from the stands as Nigeria’s D’Tigress take on their Argentine counterparts in a 2018 FIBA World Cup group game today (Tuesday).
The Nigeria women’s basketball team are hoping to secure a quarterfinal ticket when they play their last group encounter, and Dalung already arrived the venue to cheer them up to victory.
D’Tigress began their campaign on a rather poor note after falling 86-68 to Australia last weekend, but they revived their hopes of advancing when they stunned Turkey on Sunday to claim their first ever win in the tournament.
It was a stunning win for the Otis Hughley girls, as Sarah Ogoke scored 22 points while Evelyn Akhator bagged 13 points among others to seal the 74-68 triumph over the 7th-ranked team in the world at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife court.
“We are just getting started,” said Ogoke.
“Sunday’s game was good, but we are not going to dwell on it for too long. We still have another very big and must win game against Argentina tomorrow.”
The last time Nigeria as a nation met with Argentina at an international competition was at the Men’s FIFA World Cup in Russia, where the Super Eagles were knocked out of the competition through a late goal by the Argentines.
“This is going to be our revenge against Argentina that took out the Super Eagles at the FIFA World cup. So we have to beat Argentina,” Ogoke added.
The game is billed to kick of by 5:30p.m Nigeria time.
